The Forum is a free message board for
everyone interested in motorhomes, especially in Australia. Everyone is welcome to use it
to share ideas, chat with others, make comments and make friends, place classified
advertisements, seek advice, recommend favourite campsites, discuss routes and
destinations, pass on technical tips, look for a housesitter, seek a house to sit, arrange
an overseas motorhome swap, talk about the lifestyle of fulltime motorhoming, share ideas
and tips for staying connected to the Internet whilst travelling, announce news of
upcoming events, etc. etc. etc. ....the messages are only limited by your imagination.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are the topic headings?
The messages are grouped into the following topics :-
General discussion
Classifieds
Overseas (swaps etc.)
Housesitters wanted and available
Campsites, routes and destinations
Internet 'on the move'
Fulltimers
Technical
What if my message doesn't seem to fit in any of those categories?
If you canīt see just the right topic for your message, please place it in "General
Discussion", and further topics will be added as required.
Can I just read the messages without posting my own?
Yes, most certainly. You can read messages as a "guest" without the need
to register - but if you wish to reply to a message, or post your own message
you will need to register.
How do I go to the Forum?
You click on the 'Messages' button, or click
here. The Forum is hosted at Delphi. When registering with Delphi minimal information
is requested, and your details will not be passed on to advertisers. The 5-digit Zipcode is an optional field - either enter your Australian
Postcode with a leading zero, or, preferably, leave it blank.
You choose a Membername and Password. Once you have registered you simply log in.
Can I change my Membername?
No, once you have registered with Delphi the Membername you chose is yours for good.
Initial and surname (e.g. PJONES) is often a good choice.
What if I forget my password?
Delphi can send you a new password by email. Instructions are on the Delphi Login screen.
Why won't Delphi let me back in? I'm sure my password is right
A few visitors to Delphi experience this problem, mostly because they don't have 'cookies
enabled' on their web browser program.
What are cookies?
I thought you'd ask that! :-)
Cookies are small data files written to your hard drive by
some websites when you view them in your browser. These data files contain information the
site can use to track such things as passwords, lists of pages you've visited, and the
date when you last looked at a certain page.
How do I set up my browser to accept cookies?
(You may well not need to do this - it may be already set up)
If you're using Internet Explorer, go to the View menu and
select Internet Options. Within the Internet Options window, select the Advanced tab at
the top right, scroll down until you see a selection titled "Cookies" and make
sure the "Always accept cookies" box is checked.
If you're using Netscape Navigator 3.0, go to the Options
menu and select Network Preferences. Within the Network Preferences window, select the
Protocols tab. There is a heading titled "Show an Alert Before" and a check box
next to a selection titled "Accepting a Cookie." If this is not checked, you
will automatically accept cookies without being warned by your browser.
If you are using Netscape Communicator 4.0 or above, go to
the Edit menu and select Preferences. On the window that pops up, click on the Advanced
directory. You will then see the cookie options for the browser.
What if I'm still having trouble getting into Delphi?
Email service@delphi.com explaining the problem in
as much detail as possible.
Can I include a photograph with my message?
Yes, you can. A picture is worth a thousand words, especially in classified ads, but will
liven up any message - if you would like to display a photo of your motorhome, motorhome
conversion, interior layout, that handy gadget you came across, or whatever, please feel
free to include it with your message.
You'll need to scan the photo into a computer format image
file, either using your own or a friend's scanner, or by taking the photo to a Kodak shop
or local computer shop, who often provide a scanning service at a very reasonable cost.
Ask them to save it as a .jpg file, no larger than 300 x 300 pixels. They'll know what you
mean. That size gives a clear photo without taking up too much room.
NEW: There are two ways you can
include the photo - either as an "attachment", or by actually inserting it
yourself into the body of the message using HTML code. By far the simplest way is as an
attachment - you simply click the "attach file" button before you post your
message, then choose which .jpg file to attach.
For the second method, inserting a photo in the body of the
message, you'll need to upload the image file to your own area on your ISP's (Internet
Service Provider's) hard disk. If I lost you there, ring your ISP for advice - most ISP's
allow you to upload small files for free, and will help you with how to do it if you're
not sure.
Your message will need to include a special line of code to
point to the photo. The code is in HTML (Hypertext Markup Language - the language websites
are written in), but you don't need to know HTML to include the photo, simply follow this
example where the photo image
is stored on ISP space at www.motorhomesaustralia.net/
and is called stanny.jpg
Message includes:-
Our motorhome
<P><IMG SRC="http://www.motorhomesaustralia.net/stanny.jpg"><P>
Last summer
Message displays as:-
Our motorhome
last summer
When you have finished composing your message, tick the boxes which say "Check here
if HTML tags are in the message" and "Post to the message board".
It's a good idea to Preview the message to see if it works
before you post it - using HTML code can produce some odd-looking results (take it from
someone who's found out the hard way!). Because you are using HTML code, your paragraphs
may not be spaced as you'd like them - if you want to change this you can put <P> before each new paragraph.
Having explained all of the above you should know that
Delphi Forums have now implemented a new 3 Tier Membership system as from
the 01/07/2002.
The 3 Tier membership is briefly explained below Basic membership
This type of membership allows you to read and post messages but you will be unable to
post a picture or post in HTML.
Advanced membership Allows you all the benefits of Basic membership, but you are able to post
pictures and in HTML, to post a picture or post in HTML you will need to understand the
basic HTML code to do this.
Plus membership this is the to level membership and has all the benifits of both Basic &
Advanced membership and lots more, you are able to post pictures & HTML without
knowing anything about the code that is needed as Plus has a WYSIWYG ( what you see is
what you get ) editor that allows you to do all the posting with ease.
What if I change my mind after I've posted a message?
Don't worry, you can delete your own messages. However if you've "previewed" it
before "posting" it you shouldn't need to delete it. It's better to post a
follow-up message rather than delete an old message, because deletions can make it
difficult for others to follow the threads. So if, for example, you advertised your
motorhome for sale and it's now been sold, it would be preferable to post a message to
that effect rather than delete the original 'for sale' message.
